I CANOT stop listening to Lianne La Havas. She is simply amazing! A 23-year-old singer/songwriter/instrumentalist from London is taking over my iTunes. Live or studio recordings both do her justice, a truly incredible talent.

This morning I woke up distressed about where I’ve been and what I’ve yet to accomplish. Had to have a quick reality check and stop it!!

Have you ever heard the theory (which may or may not actually exist) about the shower temperature?? Essentially it’s about incremental change. If you are getting ready for the shower and you turn on the water, we’ve learned over years, you must change the temperature little by little.

Making huge turns may provide immediate gratification but soon after the water will either be too hot or too cold. To reach the perfect temperature you have to turn the knob little by little.

This stands true for life. We all want money and some form of success and self fulfillment - but we must be careful of the means we choose to earn these things. Now that I am over 25 it has never been more clear to me that I am not satisfied with where I am in life. What I have to hold on to is the fact that I am working towards what I want. I am tired of being in school and my job doesn’t provide me with self-actualization out side of the fact that I realize that I am worth so much more. Though these facts are true I cannot forget that I am working on my third degree…that’s more than anyone in my family. Im a civilly active adult. I am responsible, caring, and work well with other children.(lol) I aspire to be a great influence on the world….one person at a time. One day I will touch millions. How? Honestly, ionno (i don’t know) yet. I’m learning in this life that sometimes you have to play your role assigned until you get a chance to write the script.

Conclusively, don’t go chasing waterfalls - please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you’re use to.

Just wanted to share that I have a new found obsession with Lianne La Havas..a good friend of mine shared her with me about a week ago and I have now listened to her debut album appromiately 40 times… no exaggeration. I think I will daw a picture of her and add some music of hers to my tumblr.

Which brings me to my next point I am going to begin to attempt to keep my tumblr account up to date. I really need to work on writing more, drawing more, making more music, work on songwriting….all that jazz.

Today is Election Day. Some people say that this election is the most important presidential election to ever happen, but why? I actually have a few questions – some of which are questions I had four years ago.

· Are people voting for color or character? Discrimination can be a two way street, it’s up to the individual as to who travels it.

· Was there any focus on education or education reform in this presidential campaign?

· Are the candidates going to pretend that college is affordable and that student collections are fair?

· No one wanted to discuss how the government can garnish your wages for failure to pay student loans? Or address the fact that some states allow for individuals to be arrested for outstanding balances of any sort? Though a rarity and not practiced by the government since the 19^th century – we should be aware.

· What about my pre-existing medical bills? Can we get something going with those?

· Can we create a more effective way of not only publicizing but also create additional forms of loan and debt forgiveness?

· When will blacks stop voting just for color?

· When will whites stop voting just for color?

· A Mormon can be president, can a Muslim? Or Jehovah’s Witness?

· We weren’t ready for a biracial president, will we ever be ready for an Asian or Hispanic or female president?

Drowning in the flood of defaming campaign ads clinging to the yard signs to float to the election polls I cannot help but to think about what the social and historical implications of this election will be.

When I was younger I started (never finished) reading a book “Lies My Teacher Told Me” by James Lowen. In this book Lowen reads and compares several history text books and discusses inconsistencies in the information provided, and makes mention of the information that is not provided. I was drawn to this book due to a high school teacher of mine. He used the book several times – which is ironic due to the title. Lowen, early in the book, introduces the term “herofication”. He describes herofication as the act we subconsciously perform when reflecting on historic figures. He uses the example of George Washington. When you think of George Washington you think of a regal, seemingly young looking, white man with ling hair living in the white house.

The reality is that he had false teeth (one of which was a cow’s tooth), there are no actual pictures of him (that’s I’ve ever seen) so we know that an artist is going to be kind in their rendering of a model, he never lived in the white house (he is the only president to not), there was a loosely structured form of government and people presiding over them before George Washington.

Our history books have painted a romanticized picture of historical figures, more than likely to attempt to preserve some form of respect for these mere mortals. When I make mention of herofication I am taking away from accomplishments and achievements but merely reminding people of actuality.

In the event that Governor Romney is elected president I believe that if things become better economically and socially, even if due to incumbent President Obama’s efforts over the past few years, the herofication of Gov. Romney will be written in history books as the pious savior of the United States. If things become socially or economically worse then it will be due to the “sorry” (as stated in a campaign ad) President Obama. I have begun to call this the villianization of President Obama.

In the event that President Obama is reelected to serve a second term and things become better, if things become better economically and socially it will be due to the saving grace of Congress & Senate and its cooperation. If things go under there will an echo of “I told you so”.

From an objective standpoint I will say I believe both President Obama and Governor Romney will be “herofied” and “villianized”.

Realistically this election is bigger than the candidates. Hopefully someday people will see that regardless of who is elected POTUS our individual choices and actions have a huge impact. An even more important fact that we must make clear is that political affiliation has no direct correlation to ethnicity. {In the past blacks were aligned with Republicans, just a quick tidbit of information.} Neither President Obama nor Governor Romney are perfect— nor will either be the perfect president. What we must consider is what is good for the whole. Campaign season is nothing more than a festival of lies.

We need not to teach our children, of all colors, to vote for the person that looks most like them in the mirror but vote for the person that may be willing to address the wants and needs they have. Many adults are not sure of the president’s job – economic security. Yes, National safety is a concern but the economy is the main responsibility.

I work with children and had the experience of watching a young black boy approach a nonblack teacher, who appears to be white - though she is biracial (white and Native American), and told her that she had to vote for Nick Rodney (Mitt Romney) because she is white and white people are rich and rich white people love Mitt. I will allow you to allude to my thoughts after hearing that statement spew form the mouth of an 8-year-old.

A college friend of mine wrote on Facebook something interesting this morning. He compared businessmen & slave owners v. abolitionist and slaves to this election. I find it an interesting comparison. For the purpose of this post I will leave my political standpoint out as to not skew anyone’s perception of the candidates.

When history is taught to our children what will it say? This is a chance to contribute to the textbook. People without a vote are people without hope.

After a busy day of running and time with my niece, we planned and executed a great dinner where I showed her how to make bbq meatloaf and twice baked potatoes - we returned to the couch where she feel asleep in my arms, just like when she was a baby.

Though it seems small it really touched me. I know my brother hasn’t been the best father, but I’ve been a great uncle. The bond we have is amazing. It this is anything like fatherhood, a great joy lies somewhere ahead of me.

He we go again…..last time I was on tumblr I wrote about my 1 yo cousn who was shot in the head and killed, well this past valentine’s day two long time family friends died and my aunt was diagnosed with stomach cancer. My Aunt Mary died yesterday after being placed on life support after her heart stopped. Today my father had knee surgery, so I am here back at the hospital.

I guess I can take this time to think.

The new job is going well, I am enjoyed by my coworkers and the children.

So, I finally head back from the HUGE opportunity that I spoke about on New Year’s Day…well they emailed me last week….It’s a big deal, like huge….But, they may be seeking a year long commitment….can I do that? I mean I know I can but am I ready to do that??

In other relevant news, to me, I am sorting through some feelings….you ever wonder if you are subconsciously in love with a long term friend??

-moving on- I am absolutely in love with the television series SMASH….it’s like an adult version of glee. also, randomly, I am currently downloading Estelle’s new album. I can’t wait tho Estelle is a singer that I really appreciate.

OH!! That reminds me Elle Varner - I love!!!!

I think that’s all for now folks.

The moral of the story is to love out loud while people can still hear, that’s what matters most.

I have titled this post, as the others, to reflect what is going on…there is much to update on.

I have been gone away from my tumblr account for too long, completely negligent, but with good cause. Now that I have been back in Columbus for six months I have recently left my old job and started a new. I initially was sad about leaving the children I worked with but, I had to do what is best for me - as well as take the chance to help other children and touch their lives.

Also since I’ve been gone my love life has, umm err uhhhh…..taken a hiatis. What I don’t want to do is that cliche thing of saying that I am going to focus on me—-but that is what I am going to say. LOL.

It’d be nice to have a female friend to hold sometimes. But I digress, I won’t stress…..I really do need to get my health together and focus on this new job and doing it well.

Today, Januarary 21, 2012, I attened my younger cousins’ funeral. Truly a sad thing, he was shot in the head and only 16. These types of crimes happen all the time and in every state, and every time I just hate to think about how that child’s parent{s} feel.

Nothing hurts more than feeling like the only thing you can do is watch your family member suffer, no matter how many tears shed or wishes made, I cannot bring him back for his immediate family. There is not too much more I want to say on Tumblr about the situation but it is sad.
